Lincoln biography

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States, serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. He is regarded as one of America's greatest heroes due to his role as commander in chief during the Civil War and his efforts to preserve the Union and emancipate the enslaved people. Lincoln's leadership and eloquent speeches, including the Gettysburg Address and the Emancipation Proclamation, have made him an iconic figure in American history. He is often praised for his honesty, integrity, and commitment to equality and justice.

Lincoln controversies

While Lincoln is widely celebrated for his accomplishments, his presidency also faced controversies and criticism. One of the major controversies was the suspension of habeas corpus during the Civil War, which allowed the government to detain individuals without trial. Critics argued that this violated constitutional rights and undermined civil liberties. Lincoln's handling of the war and his decision to issue the Emancipation Proclamation also faced opposition from those who disagreed with the abolition of slavery. Additionally, his administration was challenged by political opposition and divided public opinion throughout his tenure.

Lincoln famous quotes

"In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."
"Don't worry when you are not recognized, but strive to be worthy of recognition."
"The best way to predict your future is to create it."
"Whatever you are, be a good one."
"My concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God's side."
"The ballot is stronger than the bullet."
"I am a slow walker, but I never walk back."
"The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time."
"Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves."
"I do the very best I know how-the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until the end."
