The Clash biography

The Clash was an English punk rock band formed in London in 1976 by Joe Strummer (lead singer and rhythm guitarist), Mick Jones (lead guitarist and vocalist), Paul Simonon (bassist), and Topper Headon (drums). The band was one of the first bands to make a successful appearance in the United States with the release of their debut album, The Clash (album) (1977), which was certified double platinum in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), followed by the release of their second album, Give 'Em Enough Rope (1978), which spawned the US top 10 hit "Rock the Casbah", which was certified double platinum in the United States, followed by the release of their fourth album, Sandinista! (1980), which spawned the US top 10 hit "Rock the Casbah", and their final album, Cut the Crap, which was certified double platinum in the United States and double platinum in the United Kingdom.
